Ledger + Coinkite! Smart-cards with Multi-Signature for Even More Security

You can now use your Ledger Nano with Coinkite multisig accounts!
Ledger Nano is a USB hardware wallet, which securely holds your private keys and
now can be easily used to co-sign proposed shared Coinkite transactions.

Read Full Announcement Here

.

Requirements

  • You need a Ledger Nano USB (or HW.1). Follow the usual setup process.
  • Update the Ledger Chrome App to the latest version : 1.2.0
  • Create a new shared account (multisig) on Coinkite.
  • When choosing keys, pick Hardware Wallet and then Ledger Nano

Simply enter the PIN code for your Ledger, and press Confirm to create the new Coinkite key. It is generated securely inside the Ledger and never leaves the hardware wallet. When it’s time to confirm transactions, it’s a single click to send the transaction into the Ledger for signing.

What Advantages Does This Setup Have?

  • Hold the co-signing key in a dedicated Ledger Nano device.
  • Private key never leaves the hardware wallet.
  • Mix with other keys stored on Coinkite (“Co-signed by Coinkite”) and/or offline (ie. ‘cold’).
  • SMS, Email and on-line notifications of each transaction, at each step of the way.
  • Privacy: Coinkite broadcasts the transactions for you.
  • More easily receive Bitcoin: request money via link, email and SMS
  • More easily send Bitcoin: you can send Bitcoin via SMS/Email or Link
  • Multi-user, invite a second user to hold the other keys; either in their Ledger or otherwise.
  • Have a bitcoin payment page for your Ledger

It's really easy to use: to enroll, just a click and it starts the Chrome App for Ledger Nano, and that exports an xpubkey from the nano.

To co-sign (approve) a multisig transaction, it's just one click again to open Chrome App. Another click on a confirmation screen and you're done.
