Multibit wallet - Unable to load blockchain

About a month ago I sent about 1.56BTC from the exchange to my Multibit wallet.  When I opened Multibit to view it and confirm that the transaction processed, it showed a 0 balance with an error message that read "Unable to load blockchain"   
The error was "com.google.bitcoin.store.BlockStoreException Corrupted block store: could not find chain head........"
Nothing I have tried works and I am unable to sync with the network at all.
Please help.

From what the multibit dev jim618 wrote[1] in the past the way to solve this is

#1 close multibit
#2 locate[2] the file multibit.spvchain and delete it
#3 start multibit again, it will rebuild the file and should show your correct balance.
