Okay, something like this has been suggested before, I just can't find it anymore.

If a user changes his avatar picture, it should "fade" or be blurred or downsized, whatever.
Only after keeping an avatar picture unchanged for a while should it be visible in all its glory.
If anything, allow people to "unlock" a new avatar picture with a little payment.

This has become specifically urgent with the latest trend in forum advertising campaigns where people rent out their avatar picture to some stupid ponziservice. It's really become annoying up to a point where avatars are almost useless because they no longer help keeping people apart.

Yeah, well, I'm gonna go build my own blockchain. With blackjack and hookers! In fact forget the blockchain.

this is actually a pretty good idea, I like it. and you're right that avatar in this forum has lost its real purpose. and this will also help some users to identify impersonators.
