Plus trading at Mt.Gox is paused right now

I don't think it will have much of an effect on price.

All this does is remind everyone that security is very important.

and the users of bitfloor lost some coins. so.... they MIGHT wana buy back in when they get their USD back from bitfloor

That may take a while from the sound of things.

I think that will remind everyone that MtGox can be hacked as well.  I know now after a year from the last hack it looks invincible - but there is so much money there that it is also a very attractive target.

This will not change much the thinking of the old timers - but it will give a second thought to everyone sending his first USD stash to MtGox or other exchange.

I'm sure that if there were or are any holes at Mt Gox, Patrick will find them, just like last time, and report back to Mark what needs to be done to get them holes fixed. Remember, the motto of Strateman Security Systems LLC is: Nothing gets passed us, unless we want it to, and you can take that to the bank--ours!

And the hackers MIGHT wanna sell their loot.
FUD + quick sell = down goes the price
but yeah, it will eventually rebound.

There's not much of a chance that MtGox keeps all bitcoins in their unecrypted hot wallet, I guess. So, even if they are hacked, they wouldn't lose all coins like Bitfloor.

I think as a community we need some sort of community sponsored penetration testing for new services. This just proves it further. It's a great idea, hobbled by limited understanding of security. While it's bitfloors fault- I can understand that at such a small startup size they can't be masters of every discipline.

There goes my 1 BTC I guess.

more or less retired.

And this is why I don't keep coins in online wallets. They're either converted into GLBSE securities, or sent to cold storage.

Who is holding your GLBSE securities?
