A regional court has given cheer to the Bitcoin community in Russia with a decision to lift a court-ordered ban on Bitcoin related websites, however, the ban may not yet be lifted by the Russian Federal Government.

The ban, put in place by the Russian telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor in January based on a decision by a court in Nevyansk, saw a range of Bitcoin sites blocked on the basis that the currency “contributes to the growth of the shadow economy.”

The Russian bitcoin ban is a joke. Almost everyone is using it, and the state authorities are not able to do anything to prevent it. The Russians are very innovative. When one process is blocked, they would just discover another one. Ever since 2010, Russia is having one of the largest Bitcoiner populations in the world. No government ban will be able to stunt its growth.

Yeah agreed these announcements about banning and lifting ban really have just symbolic importance. The ground realities are quite different as you mentioned there are still large number of people using hurdle free Bitcoin.Russians and Bitcoin are necessary to each other.Any way we should take this news as  positive.

Russians are going for the record of banning bitcoin more times than china, currently the score is @ 5 - 6 china.  Seems like all the talk is just pumping the coin in russia though.
