bitcoin qt problem

Downloaded bitcoin qt from bitcoin.org, took me to sourceforge.  Size was 11.1mb

After download and it is updating, it does not allow me to go to start menu or open programs.  AFter awhile, the bitcoin client disappeared.  Now I can't even shut down the computer or restart because i can't go to start menu.

Not sure what the problem is.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be that the qt application is taking up all the system resources thus not allowing windows to work correctly? When you first start the client it will start downloading the full blockchain.

Did you try reinstalling the program??
