2014年，曾是世界最大比特币交易平台的Mt.Gox遗失了约65万枚比特币，而据日本媒体披露，遗失的比特币中99%源自内部系统操纵，而不是官方声称的外部黑客攻击。丢失的比特币仍然掌控在Mt.Gox CEO卡皮勒斯手里，但是并没有直接证据。
