So someone I know messaged me on IRC.

1)  Their btc address here is linked to a walled sealed on a physical coin in a safe deposit box.

2) the password recovery email system does not recognize their email address and says the username is locked

3) they changed the email address associated w/ the account a few days ago so they cannot receive the reset link anyway

4) They entered in the security phrase, but it does not appear to work correctly as intended.

5) auto-complete destroyed password data so old password no longer works.

Any ideas?

1- what brand physical coin is the BTC address of?

Also your friend can sign a message from any address that the account has posted from in the past on an unedited post, or from an address send in a PM.

Cassassius Bearer Bar

edit: also, I'll let him know, looking through his posting history now to see - he's been around since 2010 so there's BOUND to be something there :/

Ouch I don't blame the person on not wanting to open one of those bars they have become a high priced crypto item on their own.

Looking through posts, or pm is best idea.  Find a wallet address he's used in a trade or posted for some reason that he can sign a message with.   Since 2010 I would think he has used a address he has ability to sign and send from.  Might be a lot of searching though.

You might ask him who he's done deals with in past, and see if one of those kept info about one of his BTC address's.

They should email acctcomp15@theymos.e4ward.com if they haven't already. (Their "account locked for security" message should have said this...) If I take longer than ~4 days to respond, they should resend their mail. It might not be necessary for them to sign using that address in particular.

Theymos,

I'm the friend in question (bg002h). Thank you Frankenmint!

The short story is that SMF and iOS keychain don't play nicely together. I changed my password as requested and updated my secret question; somehow keychain's "suggest password" feature got confused on which fields to fill out and now I'm locked out.

I'm a donator and i believe strongly in the importance of the mission of this forum. I am really glad to see it still running and functioning pretty darn well (I'm no security expert, but my gut says it would be expensive to prevent every attack and not worth the money).

Anyhow, I'm a physician. I'm pretty well documented. I'm no scammer. I  sent you an email to the above address and didn't get a reply. If you wouldn't mind sending a password reset email for bg002h to the address you already have on file that would be awesome.

Many thanks,

Brian

Oh, here's what the forum says when I request a password reset: (sorry for flicker link, this is what's easiest for me from my phone) https://[Suspicious link removed]/p/ueZ8ST

I see SMF doesn't like Flickr...replace [suspicious link removed] with flic dot kr
