Anybody have any luck getting a rma for the cheap oem 5970's that were on newegg last year or am I probably shit out of luck?

  Yep, just call Diamond and explain what's going on with the cards.  You'll wait a bit for a turnaround but it beats having a dead card.

  I've already had to replace 2 of my 4 and I can tell a third one is already slowly dying.

yeah, slow but I got a new/refurb card.

Submit an RMA online and then call and of course I hope you registered within thirty days.

Defintely call though, it will make things move faster.

I just finished their lengthy RMA process....it seems if you don't keep on checking the status and calling you won't hear from Diamond at all.

I had a 5970 I sent back to them and what did they give me in return........a 7850, I tried talking them into a 7950 no such luck. I was told they have no 5970's and not expecting any, although others here somehow got one.
They offered the 7850 or a Newegg credit for what a 7850 is selling for. The card came from a 3rd party reseller and not direct from Diamond.

If anybody wants to buy the new in shrink wrap 7850 let me know.....$180
Probably not the best deal for mining compared to other options.

Well that is total crap. A 5970 would destroy a 7850 in nearly all applications. You should start raising a stink on any and every online forum you can. 5 year warranty my azz.

I am about to do another RMA and if they offer a 7850 I might just have to start a facebook and twitter page...lol

Diamond is pretty much the absolute worst company to do an RMA through. They just plain don't respond to your emails. My luck? Diamond has my 5970, had it for 3 weeks now, I have delivery confirmation they got it, can't get a reply. At least I could have used the dead card for the fan.

Best company ever? MSI. Had a stock 7970 die on me, 3 weeks later? A brand new, sealed 7970 Lightning at my doorstep. That's what I call customer service.

well after almost 48hrs I got a response from amd and they say ACER made it and well acer won't take any responsibility for it, they I guess sold it to a third party who sold it to newegg. I think its bs to pay 400 dollars for a video card that I guess didn't have any warranty to begin with. oh well live and learn I guess.


I love msi's rma service as well, though I honestly don't think they are as reliable manufacturer as they used to be, their am3+ boards pretty much suck except for 990fx's

for what its worth I wasn't being careful enough with my 5970's, We had another 100 degree day here out of the blue after I figured the heat was over with. Didn't underclock the core until I noticed it was at 82 degrees, first core never worked again after that reset

  Yeah I'll echo the thoughts on that RMA issue.

  1.  Be SURE you registered the card first Wink
  2.  Fill out RMA form but also call them for sanity sake
  3.  Follow their instructions and send the card back
  4.  Unfortunately, be at the mercy of the deity of your choice for what they'll credit you for as an upgrade ~_~

  I was told that they were waiting on their suppliers from China on a new batch shippment of cards / parts so my order was delayed for a good 5-6 weeks...
  Talked them into trading me two 6970s (pretty powerful cards but even ...somehow... LOUDER than the 5970s once those fans crank up) 

  For a 7970 I'd have to pay extra.

  I'd just say be happy they'll replace your card period.  I also lost a couple hundred MH/sec per card but it beat a silicon doorstop.  They transferred the 5 year warranty (or what was left of it) to the new card. 

  Generally I've found them to be far more receptive over the phone and their call # is not quite as hidden now.

  Good luck.  Otherwise if it weren't for the prices Newegg had, I'm happy if my Diamond cards break even.  Past that, wouldn't ever buy from them.

No, diamond is a brand for ATI cards. They are not solely for newegg. Rosewill is newegg's own generic brand.

For guys that are RMAing your 5970s, are you still getting back the same fixed 5970 or a different 5970? It's hard to imagine that these companies still keep around spare stock of 5970 just for RMAs since these cards are so old now.

Neither, because they don't stock them anymore.  They'll offer a trade up that, while decent for gaming or other distributive compute is a good value, it won't offer the same MH/sec for us bitcoin miners.

Well I presume that's if the card that's traded in is even fixable.  Both of mine were EoL'd.

You can't make generic statements like that based on only 2 or 3 data points. In fact neither of us can: I have had the exact opposite experience with Diamond. I have RMA'd cards with pretty much every vendors (Sapphire, Visiontek, Diamond, HIS), and in my experience Diamond was the fastest (8 days between shipping the defective 5970 and receiving a brand new replacement, that was in August 2011).

The truth is that the quality and speed of the RMA process varies across the world and depending on which employees or business partners handles of your specific RMA request. It would take thousands of RMA experiences to accurately tell which vendor does the best job.

Pretty much.  Need to first register your purchased card within 30 days though for the longer-term warranty to take effect.

  Going to bump this thread for the sheer fun of having my two other Diamond cards fail at the moment.

  One card is crashing and artifacting even at lowered clockspeeds (it's in a warmer room so I never OC'd it) and the other card has had one of the cores on it's way out for months...  

  Even if I took the other cards out of the system, the Diamond card still instantly crashes the system and freezes the display driver.  Odd though that it had worked for many days before that running perfectly fine.

Yeah i have two that have failed recently also. I suppose I need to get off my butt and RMA them.

Phone call is definitely the best way.
