"Electrum is a lightweight client, but does not follow the SPV model. It purely relies on trusting its servers, and does not validate the proof-of-work in the chain. Multibit or Android Wallet are SPV clients"

http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/4649/what-is-an-spv-client

So most likely it dosen't apply to Electrum but it does to the other wallets such as Multibit and others . However you should wait for more answers to confirm I don't want to be the reason of any thing wrong you do

Precisely, you must rely on Electrum servers being updated and as far as I know there is no way to see their Core version...

Anyways, the blockchain has resumed it's normal operation for quite a few hours, so everything you do from now on should be fine.
