Use Bitcoin Core and you won't have to wait for 30 confirmations.

Whats wrong [...] ?

Some miners didn't verify the validity of blocks after the enforcement of the latest BIP. These miners then continued to mine on an invalid chain.

[...] how worried should we be ?

About 28.5% worried.

as a senior you don't know what is bitcoin core? seems very odd to me, it's the main client for bitcoin, that many should use more seeing how the last version was immune to the last blockchain split

according to https://bitcoin.org/en/alert/2015-07-04-spv-mining it split 2 times.
The first time, the split lasted 6 blocks, the second time it lasted 3 blocks.
To wait 30 confirmation seems like an overkill, I never really understood that. On the other hand, the split touched the magical barrier of waiting 6 confirmations to be safe.
But, as far as I know, there was no double spend and every transaction in the invalid chain, also got into the valid chain.

If you use the latest client, then there is no need to wait for 30 confirmations.

I tried to sell mine, but the confirmationtime was too long  Grin

We should not be worried or abandon ship. It is a minor bump and we will see some innovations comming along in the development of bitcoin. Only hope this stress testing does not affect the calm of the developers so they will not make overhaste decisions and deploy buggy code or major flaws.
