Will the legalization of gay marriage reduce the number of new HIV cases?

Men having sex with men (MSM) make up only 4% of the US population, but make up 78% of new AIDs cases, with young black males accounting for almost one-half of the new HIV cases.

There are 1.2 million people with AIDs in the US, with 50,000 new cases each year.

The Caribbean, with its small population, has the second highest number of HIV cases in the world. AIDs is the leading cause of death in Haiti and the Bahamas. In some places in Africa, like Zimbabwe, 1/2 the adult population 25-29 years old is dying of AIDs. In Washington DC, 2.7% of the black male population has AIDs. Blacks make up only 14% of US population but account for 44% of new HIV cases. A breakdown of new HIV cases per 100,000 people is as follows: (Males) Black--104 new cases per 100,000 people, Hispanics 45.5 per 100,000, and whites 15.8 per. Females: black--38 of new cases per 100,000, Hispanics 8, and white females--1.9. Male transvestites are infected at a rate of 40%. In Austin, Texas, the HIV infection rate for Hispanics rose 40% in one year.

The disparity between the races has been quoted to be economic--minorities can't afford health care; (what happen to Obama Care?). Homophobes and stigma--minorities are too afraid to seek treatment because of homophobia, and stigma. The sexuality of rap music--making it cool to have sex when your 13--was not mentioned as a factor. (Considering the Disparate Impact law that was just passed, Whitey is going to have to get more AIDs--too big of a disparity between the races.)

The cost of lifetime treatment for AIDs is almost $400,000/patient.

There was a time that people with AIDs were not allowed into the country, but GW Bush, in 2007, passed an HIV 'non-discriminatory act in travel and immigration which repealed any ban on the immigration into America of AIDs patients.

Considering, that even with all the money spent on HIV awareness programs, the message about how it is spread wasn't learned, I think it ridiculous to think legalized marriage will decrease the number of new cases in the US. Besides, it is funny to think that people in gay marriages would all of a sudden become 'traditionalists' and have only one partner.

I think it has told by many articles that the main cause of HIV is have sex with multiple partners, so it can infect the gay too if the "husband" cheat on the "wife" with the other gay. If both gay and straight guy just have single partner, so the risk for them to get infected by HIV is tiny.

Perhaps marriage will have a minor effect on HIV cases, but I wouldn't expect too much changes. In my opinion people used to have sex with multiple partners, because of they like that, not because of they can't get married with one single partner.

A classic, large-scale study by Bell and Weinberg conducted during the 1970s and published by the Kinsey Institute found that forty-three percent (43%) of white male homosexuals had had sex with 500 or more partners, and twenty-eight percent (28%) had had sex with 1,000 or more partners. Seventy-nine percent (79%) said that more than half of their sexual partners had been strangers. In 1985, Pollack found that gay men averaged “several dozen partners a year” and “some hundreds in a lifetime” with “tremendous promiscuity.”[ii] In their 1997 study of the sexual profiles of 2,583 older homosexuals published in the Journal of Sex Research, Paul Van de Ven, et al., found that “the modal range for number of sexual partners was 101-500.” In addition, 10.2 percent to 15.7 percent had between 501 and 1,000 partners. A further 10.2 percent to 15.7 percent reported having had more than one thousand lifetime sexual partners.[iii]

Nope. Marriage doesn't ensure that people do not have multiple partners.
Nor does it ensure that people have safe sex outside of marriage.

I think the best question is, are the gay couples more loyal to their spouse than the straight couples? It will give us an answer do the gay marriage reduce the number of new HIV cases or not.

The average number of partners for homosexuals (at least for those in the United States and the European Union) witnessed a considerable decline in the late 1980s and 1990s, as the spread of AIDS instilled a fear in them. But the situation reversed in the beginning of the 21st century, as the invention of Anti-retrovirals made AIDS a manageable disease. These people are not afraid of catching AIDS, as it will not kill them. However, the tax payers will suffer quite a lot.

I tripped out when I first heard about these "Bug Chasers" - people who purposely seek-out someone to give them HIV/AIDS:

In 2009, Rolling Stone Magazine published an article that suggested gay and bisexual men were actively seeking partners with HIV in order get the disease. The article described the practice as being “intensely erotic” and the “ultimate taboo and most extreme sex act left.” However, the same article has been criticized for glamorizing the subject. According to the magazine, 25 percent of all new, gay male infections in the United States may be due to bug chasing. However, the actual percentage is probably around 1–2 percent.

In the last couple years, the practice of bug chasing has started to spread over social networking and been reported by the media. Some people have even claimed that HIV will give them a better quality of life because of the medication. One individual, Nick, is quoted on Facebook: “Tested positive on 21st September and totally loving it! Wanna share with any chasers, CD4 is 971, VL 100,000 – nice and toxic!”
