How to update bitcoin wallet?

Hello, I am relatively new to bitcoin, I was trying to register for bitcoin-otc and when I was going through the address verification process my bitcoin wallet said it needed to be upgraded. How would I go about doing this without losing my current address if thats possible (I already entered it in the address verification, but cannot verify with the current version). Thanks in advance.

Just shut down Bitcoin, download the latest version, and install it. Back up your wallet first in case things go wrong (really, you should back up your wallet anyway whether you're upgrading or not), though usually nothing goes wrong. Your old wallet and blockchain will not be touched during the installation process and will be recognised and updated automatically when you start the new version.
