Sorry if the title turns out to be misleading, I might have just misunderstood something but the message seems to be very specific...
This is what I got just now, trying to pay some GBP into Mt.Gox's bank account.

ps: being locked into the newbie forum is kind of annoying.

What bank are you trying to send from?

What do you mean, you tried to deposit money and somewhere along the way it is telling you that their account is closed?

When did you try to deposit the funds?

I dont think they can accept transactions on a sunday or monday? Its mentioned on their site.

Temporary suspension of all GBP Deposits via Barclays

It is with regret that we have to inform our British users that you will no longer be able to deposit British Pounds (GBP) to our Barclays bank account from now on.

Anyone know if they'v sorted out alternat arrangements in the uk?

Unlevereged financial instruments acting as a store of value that fluctuate 50% within 10 minutes is perfectly acceptable. I think it should be offered in IRA form to soon to be retirees.

No, they're suggesting to send EUR. Let's see...

GBP: domestic, no currency conversion, quick, no fees
EUR: international, currency conversion, slow, a fortune

Intersango (Britcoin) also promised to sort it out, that was about a month ago.

Anyone open a new bet on betsofbitco.in ? GBP will be restored by the 20th of October or not? Smiley

I did a trasaction early this morning and my bank said it went in ok, but later on this afternoon it was reimbursed in to my account?

Yesterday (Monday) I tried twice and it was refused by my bank, which was because they are no longer accepting payments on Sundays or Mondays, but this one (Tuesday) went in, but mtgox have refunded me the money for some reason?

Did someone on here mention that intersango was fucked now? Maybe because of this more people are using mtgox, and because they can only do 300 transactions a day they are having to0 turn away business?

Anyone shed any light on the matter?

Cheers.

Mt. Gox's message said even they weren't contacted by Barclays before it happened, so they didn't know.   They usually don't provide the details when bank problems occur.

You probably should assume it will be closed for an extended period of time though.

Here are some options to consider:

Blockchain.info just added the ability to use Barclay's Pingit to buy bitcoins using GBP:

You can also send cash (GBP) in the mail to Bitcoin Nordic (in Denmark):

And, or course, there may be a chance for a local trade:

Didn't know Pingit existed. Million thanks for the heads-up!
