I was wondering if there is/will be a Windows binary of Electrum that supports the Trezor and HW.1 hardware wallets? I have a HW.1 dongle now and from my reading of the Electrum forum, in order to use it with Electrum I would need to compile from scratch with the added libraries?

I'm not a programmer so compiling Electrum from scratch is not an option. I'd dearly LOVE to be able to use my new HW.1 under Windows 7.

If I try to run Electrum and build a hardware wallet Electrum just crashes.

Please advise.

I'm currently using Electrum 2.3.2

Use Electrum 2.0. It works fine with Trezor and does not crash. I stopped upgrading due to many problems and rezor not working after upgrades.

Buy a Trezor and Protect your BTC, BCH, BTG, DASH, LTC, DGB, ZEC, ETH and ETC from hackers.
If I was helpful please buy me a coffee BTC: 1DWK7vBaxcTC5Wd2nQwLGEoy8xdFVzGKLK  BTG: AWvN1iBqCUqG2tEh3XoVvRbdcGrAzfBBpW

Are you plugging your Trezor in *BEFORE* you start Electrum?

I use a Trezor with Electrum and I have the Trezor plugged in before Electrum starts. I've never run into any issues with it before, and Electrum definitely works better than the MyTrezor site. If you're having issues with the latest Electrum release try using the 2.0 version as suggested because it seems to fix problems that users have with later releases.

Thanks for the report. I looked at 2.0 and saw that it doesn't support the HW.1. But after I re-intalled 2.3.2 it all started working anyway.

So it worked for you to create a hardware wallet?
I'm curious cause I have the same problem (HW.1 Dongle and no programming skills) Smiley
I'm actually on Version 2.2 and that didn't work.

1. I backed up my wallet(s) and contacts file.

2. Un-installed Electrum and removed all directories associated with Electrum.

3. Re-installed Electrum.

4. Set up the HW.1 wallet as the *very first* wallet in the new configuration.

5. Restored all the other non-HW wallets.

All is good now!

It turns out I wasn't quite right. Following the steps above will get Electrum to reliably tell you that the HW.1 isn't present if it's not plugged in. But if you have the HW.1 plugged in then it still doesn't work. If I look at the process table I show the Electrum executable still running but there's nothing on the screen. It's as though the process is hung and needs to be killed in the process manager.

The HW.1 I'm using has already been initialized using the default app. I'll set the key back to it's default state and see what happens.

UPDATE: I've attempted installing using a un-initialized HW.1 as well as one that has been initialized. I've tried all Electrum versions from 2.0.3 up to 2.3.2 without success. All versions show that Electrum is running but there is nothing on the screen.

Oh well... Maybe someday someone can get it working and enlighten us.

HW.1 is working fine for me but I compiled Electrum 2.0 myself. I can help you setting it up if you want.

HW.1 is so cheap I am eager to buy one for every day use. I am still waiting for better support for HW.1 from Electrum before I buy one to test.

HW.1 is working fine for me but I compiled Electrum 2.0 myself. I can help you setting it up if you want.

What is the different between the download executable and one compiled myself. Aren't they essentially the same code? Are some parts of the code excluded from a windows compile? Why would they do that?

They should be the same code. If you compile the source code yourself then you can verify the code and double check to make sure that there's no malicious code in the software. For the average user using the executable is much easier than compiling the source code into an executable.

Basically they offer the source code for users to read through, modify if they like, and compile for themselves if they wish. Launching an installer is much easier than compiling all the code.
