I absolutely aggree. I would even raise the minimum level to 50 points of activity before new accounts can start their trolling in the speculation section.

There is no use reporting the spammers, their posts are still on the forum and they will create another account. They only way is to reintroduce newbie jail or at least restrict where they can post.

I've reported 33 with an 88% accuracy, just looked. I don't tend to report posts vety often but I have noticed there's a lot more trolling & wumming going on lately. Probably because the price has been pretty low for a while now, people enjoy annoying others. Pretty sad really when you think about it. The speculation sub forum has the most trolling on bitcointalk.org by far.

I approached Theymos about this at the height of the forum troll posting lewd pornography and making child porn references and accusations against members. He believes it would stifle new user activity to reintroduce newbie jail.

Clearly the best solution would be to limit newbie jail to this forum. Trolls would disappear instantly. The forum moderators do a great job actually. If you see a post that is obviously nlc then just report and they are summarily deleted.

I can take trolling to an extent, it's annoying but I can put up with it. The bit I've bolded though simply is not on. The dirty old men pics of sucking each others cocks are disgusting but the child porn jibes & 'jokes' are what I find most disturbing. Child abuse is one of the things that really makes me sick in life, I don't want to see it joked about & mocked.
It's not funny at all.

I assume mods can restrict things section by section. For instance you can't edit posts in the auction forum.

There are lots of sections where new users should be able to dive right in. Speculation should not be one of them. They'd be saving themselves a lot of extra work and saving it from becoming a cesspit with a couple of key strokes.

Nope, the posts will be deleted by mods once reported (and if it is really a spam). To keep my reporting accuracy 100%, I'll check every report of mine, though I have only made 16 reports with 100% accuracy.

Newbie jail causes a huge amount of issues. People complain about removing newbie jail, but it really didn't do much to prevent spam. The issue with spam doesn't come from genuine newbies, it comes from account farmers. If you are managing 100 accounts, a 3 hour wait means very little to you. If you are trying to learn about Bitcoin as a genuine newbie, a 3 hour wait can do enough to convince you its not worth looking into. If newbie jail was reimplemented this second, the forum would indeed get better, for 3 hours that is, then the waves of accounts hitting the boards would be the same as it was before. In addition, whitelisting is a huge drain on staff resources.

If you report one spammer, all of their accounts get banned.

Hah. I consider my ~78% or so a badge of honor due to ethical and qualitative disagreements with the moderation of these forums.

I take that as a sign that 22% of the mods on these forums are corrupt and detrimental to this community.
