Here are some important facts that you should know
                                                                                                             Addiction
Addiction is treatable. Helping yourself or someone through recovery takes a lot of effort, but it can be done. It is important not to give up and to realize that, you are not alone. Your hope that you or someone you know can return to a healthy, drug free life can make all the difference.

Addiction is a disease and a health problem that does not happen because someone is "bad."
Addiction runs in families, just like cancer or heart disease. If your family has a history of alcoholism or drug addiction, explain to your child that they are at a higher risk for addiction.
Many other people are facing the same problems. Substance misuse is common among teens and adults. Addiction doesn’t discriminate. It cuts across race, gender, and economic lines.
Know the warning signs and act early.

If you suspect that you or someone you know has a problem, find out now.

...if you use drugs at a high enough dose, frequently enough, and for long enough, you literally change the way the brain works.

You change the way nerve cells communicate in such a way that you develop this compulsive, out of control use despite knowing that all kinds of terrible things can happen to you, and despite even experiencing many of those things.

DO NOT USE DRUGS FOR LIFE.

When you say addiction runs in the family, it does not mean that it is a hereditary disease, passed on through genes.
It is just that children who are exposed to vices in their formative years (when their parents are addicts) tend to experiment with these vices.

Yah you can say that it is treatable but it is very difficult to treat as it is like a disease.Addiction of anything is bad.

Addiction of anything is bad and can be treated but it's very difficult to treat at later time so i would say never get addicted to anything in the world.

Treatable? Sure. Can one be fully "cured" from it is the question? I can almost say for sure that it is not possibly. To understand this you have to be an ex smoker. Surely we can not generalize as each 'drug' is addictive in a different way. I used the word drug but I'm implying everything, including coffee and whatnot. In the case of quitting smoking, it is fine until there are no smokers around. However, when you see someone inhale that first puff in your vicinity you get reminded of how it feels and you want to feel it. There's a particular, hard to explain, feeling with smoking (sometimes). Smokers should understand.

This is partially true. HOWEVER. As someone who quit smoking Tobacco (maybe not everything else lol), I can say that when I do smell tobacco, it really smells badly. I am often wondering how I smelled like that so much and felt badly for making my old co-workers deal with it. Smoking cigarettes is not just a waste of money, it's just fucking gross, IMO. Wish I could take back 20 years of smoking now!  Tongue

Most smokers do not stand the smell unless they're the ones smoking (at least from what I've encountered so far). This includes me. I do not like the smell at all especially not since my vape smells nice. However, this is not really related to the feeling of smoking although you do make a point. 20 years of smoking? That's a lot.

It sure was a long time. probably more, sadly, i don't count.

I guess I meant more from a "trigger" issue, like if i see people smoking but can't smell it, yes... I DO miss the ritual of smoking a butt. When it comes to the smell though, I'm just grossed out. It took me a long time to quit, it is probably my one great accomplishment of life. Even though my mother is dying of cancer, as I may do so someday, I'm still glad I quit. Cancer sticks is what I call them now.  Undecided
