Where should/can we discuss the r/bitcoin forum?

A quote by HostFat that struck me as valid.

Even though consensus is such a high bar, I think that in practice any hardfork that gets consensus among the Bitcoin Core devs and makes it into Bitcoin Core has a good chance of succeeding.

This sub should be renamed BitcoinCore Smiley

Someone threw that into reddit as its own thread and its also been listed as a reply somewhere.  If you guys know how reddit works - that's not how it works.  You just have to create a new BitcoinCore subreddit - further adding to the confusion and efforts to simply 'label' a communal location to talk about bitcoin.

I'm not sure if he mentions in the 2nd sticky, but I was under the impression that the sticky will be removed and then its fair game to discuss hard-forks in relation to the core software and XT, once a hard-fork becomes an immenent possibility (ie Bip 101+ etc is adopted or its past Jan and Substantial users and mining pools switch to XT)

Also, I find it hilarious that LTB got the idea to send a system-wide notice to all members 'promising NO Censorship'  -  I was like 'really guys...that's what you're banking on to increase readership?  Okay good luck you guys  Smiley'

Why should it? /r/bitcoin is about the current Bitcoin, which is defined by current consensus. Bitcoin Core is the reference implementation of the current Bitcoin protocol. If/when XT becomes the current Bitcoin and a reference implementation, the discussion will be allowed there, as theymos said.

Check out the above post by theymos, I think it explains his policy pretty well.

The tl;dr version of his explanation is that XT is an altcoin because it is designed to eventually change the protocol without consensus. I am not sure that I agree with his conclusion and I am not sure that this is a good policy, however at the very least he did give a fair and well thought out explanation.

I do think that XT should be discussed in the Bitcoin section (and in R/Bitcoin) because of Blazr's reasons here, but also so the community can better understand the differences between XT and Bitcoin, and the risks involved in trying to fork the network without consensus. I think if more discussion can be had in an open setting then I would argue that there would be a greater chance for consensus to be reached one way or another.
