There obviously was some communication before the video was taken. The guy might have actually had a knife. But the things that he is doing show both, that he is afraid of the cops while at the same time communicating back and forth with them. He seems on the verge of allowing himself to be taken into custody by them.

They simply shot him, while he had his hands up. There was no reason for them to shoot. They could have easily waited for the back-up that came shortly after the shooting. The could have easily wrestled the guy to the ground.

Later, after the video is released to the public by the TV station, the sheriff condemns the TV station for releasing the video.

Of course, the cops that did the shooting will probably go on paid vacation. It seems we have a new brand of local terrorist here.

I suspect that they are simply stunned in disbelief.

Remember, it took blacks hundreds of years to build themselves up into a riot nature. And gays have been around for hundreds of years secretly, but it is only lately that they are fighting back formally.

Look into the history of the Pearl Harbor bombing by the Japs. It didn't take long for people to riot into WWII. Roosevelt had advanced knowledge by at least a couple of weeks that Japan was going to attack. Yet he did nothing.

Part of police traing in America is designed to ellicit certain results from the people. These results might be to give up their guns. If this is the case, it just might backfire on the propagators of gun control. After all, consider what might have happened if the neighborhood had been filled with people armed to the hilt. The guy wouldn't have made a problem for himself in the first place, and the cops just might have been strung up on the spot if they did what they did.

Both the perpetrators (Deputies Greg Vasquez & Robert Sanchez), as well as the victim (Gilbert Flores) were non-white Hispanic. So why should the whites riot over the killing? Also, the incident occurred in the city of San Antonio, where more than two-third of the population is Hispanic. And moreover, it is not yet known whether all of these guys were American citizens.

The sheriff condemns the TV station for releasing the video! They are just doing their job.
It isn't the TV station's fault that the cops are trigger happy.

The police need better accountability, better hiring practices, better people skills, de-escalation skills, etc. Man, these incidents are going to just keep piling up more and more as time passes and there are more cellphone cameras in people's pockets. There should be a thing where an off-camera police officer is an off-duty police officer. Also, have it have a button to hold for several seconds to turn off and that comes back on after three or four minutes. We also need blacklisting from police jobs, to prevent the wrong people from simply being re-hired elsewhere as police officers.

But all these things are meaningless without proper prosecution for police wrongdoing. Bullshit legislation needs to be removed (starting with civil forfeiture, immediately) and police corruption cracked down on hard.

I was just implying that race wasn't a factor with this particular incident, unlike that with the previous cases (such as the shooting of Michael Brown). In those cases, the perpetrators were white and the victim was black. So there was a backlash against the police department, accusing it of being racist and ignorant about the African-American sensitivities.

They are not cops but they are criminals. Its so sad to hear how cops are killing people on daily basis. Government is sleeping. Whom to complain???
