Coinbase Makes 'Instant' Bitcoin Buying Available in 26 Countries

Coinbase has announced customers across 26 countries can buy bitcoin "instantly" from today.

Previously, users could top up their accounts via bank transfer, however the exchange now supports 3D Secure credit and debit cards – having trialled the technology in the UK and Spain.

In a blog post, the company stated:

"Since credit and debit cards will not require a customer to pre-fund their Coinbase account with a bank transfer, customers can now receive bitcoin much faster."

Pretty good informations if you ask me , however we need exchange that accept PayPal these days (Virwox fees just .. sucks)

Yes, but limits for instant buying are ridiculous. Only €40 per day. I am from France. And it's stated that even if you apply for a limit increase, your instant buying limits won't increase.

So if you wanna buy some more serious amounts, you still have to wire the money.

Yes, but limits for instant buying are ridiculous. Only €40 per day. I am from France. And it's stated that even if you apply for a limit increase, your instant buying limits won't increase.

So if you wanna buy some more serious amounts, you still have to wire the money.

Not only that but availability of such services is also limited. I think that banks in southern EU countries have just started rolling out products using this '3d security' protocol this year. So the instant buy is definitely not available in 26 countries and also not big news due to transactions being so limited.

Well limits are there because of the chargebacks problem. Which makes me wonder, even if someone scams them and charges back the transaction, what would they do? Would they really get after users that charged back 40 or 80 pounds, euros or whatever else?

This seems very costly for them to go after the users and such small transactions. To me it makes sense to either allow big, normal transactions via credit cards or not allow them at all.

Limits are too low, 40 EUR is too low for BTC buying  Buying limit must be much higher

Do you have transaction fee's on your credit and debit cards? The daily limit might be set to increase transaction fee's for the participating financial institutions. If there were no

limits, people would buy BTC with their whole balance and these countries will lose out on transaction fee's.

The charge-back risk is significantly lowered by these daily limits.. it's a start, let's see how it plays out. Instant Bitcoin buying make life so much easier, than having to jump

through many processes to get hold of BTC, and can only be a positive move.

A friend of mine signed up and bought using a credit card (from Spain). Seemed to work pretty well for him. I think there is a $100 limit per day though.

mm interesting i was going to ask it here, i mean if they accept credit cards from spain because when i try with circle i had some problems with it, they didnt accept cc from europe.

in sweden we can buy literately 100 Bitcoin and get them under 3 minutes .

Maybe. Maybe they also have a limit from country to country. Maybe they need to abide with the laws of certain country and the limit is connected with insurances, etc.. Who knows..

Yes it does. They are actually pretty strict about their cards. I just tried to add a card that expires at the end of the month and it didn't work, even though my card still works everywhere else. I guess that because of the chargeback they pay close attention.

You should check with your bank does it have 3D Secure? Or just try adding a card and if it works, it works.

Thanks for the response. I don't see 3D Secure anywhere on my online banking - I'll have to ask at the desk next week. But I did just try adding my card. It seems to work, but I get this message: "Credit Card Added -- You can now buy up to €0.00 of bitcoin per day instantly." Lol?

Edit: When I actually try to buy it says €2,000 €40 a day. So it must've been a frontend glitch.

Well there you go then, your card was 3D Secure! I guess you have the same limit as myself, €40 a day!
