Good points, guys....the two main weaknesses I can see in Nxt right now are marketing and accessibility.
All the tech works pretty much perfectly, that's been proven over the last 2 years. Devs and community are solid, too.
But we do need better/more marketing, and a genuinely easy user experience.

Luckily, I've been working like a little maniac (as part of the Nxt Foundation) on a solution for our marketing shortcomings, and we are also exploring ways of making Nxt (and thru Nxt, crypto in general) more accessible for the average guy in the street. The NAUT/Drachmae project has been a real learning experience in a lot of ways.

So yeah, onwards and upwards..... Grin

@sumantso
Damelon is still very much around, he just got a bit fed up with BTT for some reason.
I'll pass on your regards...... Wink

Another thing to keep in mind is this.

Is there more money to be made in crypto or in the stock market? Not exactly a mystery now is it...

Anyways, my point is this: The Stock Markets of the world seem to be heading in the direction of high volatility. Likely this preludes some sort of significant economic event which would be necessary for people to even consider pursuin the crypto space in a more serious manner. If the current system seems shaky but you aren't comfortable with alternatives (which have never existed before) I think it's reasonable to assume most people are gonna err on the side of caution.

There's a reason most people are only average in terms of wealth, they don't take risks because even when they do they tend to be wrong. They aren't trail blazers, they're casual consumers of a service (which we wish to provide) that just want to see stability at the end of the day. (Because growth has been so evasive for so long it almost seems like an illusion at this point. A currency going up in value over time? Get real!)

As far as NXT goes, I recall reading on its forums that someone was suggesting you guys build in some sort of anonymous VPN browsing attachment. (I probably butchered the terminology) so that people could use the NXT as a means of safer, decentralized net browsing.

I honestly don't know how viable it is but every time he made the suggestion it was always ignored, but if you could do it then I think it'd give NXT some killer utility above and beyond what's already out there.

Otherwise, just keep in it for the long haul. Replacing financial systems is NOT a simple task and requires copious amounts of trust and likely won't even be taken seriously till some sort of panic occurs. I think cryptos will grow into the tens of trillions (If not eventual hundreds) over time, but let's remember that it's all about the long haul.

2016 the year of 2.0 cryptos? Please, try more like 2020 - and that's being optimistic
Till then let's have fun dicking around in the sub $10 billion market caps

You're right. I thought https://www.freemarketlite.cc/ would at least get a few people selling, but no. I thought integrating shapeshift allowing paying to list items with btc/btcd and easy nxt account creation would encourage sellers, but apparently not. I'm not a marketer, but freemarket is lightyears beyond what is available on other platforms. Just wish people would give it a try, even if it's just the centralized passthru service.

is it anonymous?

https://nxtforum.org/freemarket/anonymity-on-freemarket/msg145896/#msg145896

"hardcore privacy will be implemented when the rest of the work is done.
Also we want to see Telepathy in action - it prevents blockchain analysis and does not reveals IP adresses. With the help of some ephemeral passwords it will help to build rock solid privacy."

Is that part finished?

It's on the clearnet. It was never meant to be anon, just to easily show people freemarket without having to download the software. Freemarket itself is as anon. as NxT. Freemarketlite isn't. However, it lowers the barrier for entry by showing people all the cool things they can do.

Yep, FreeMarket could do with a kick in the arse. But it's not a core Nxt project, so sod all to do with me directly.

Same goes for SuperNET, though SuperNET will be getting some more marketing exposure together with Nxt in the next few months.

You're missing a core point about Nxt: it is genuinely decentralised, with no overall leadership. Lots of separate projects, with no Stan 'n' Dan style dictatorship.
And another on the Lambo: it's the personal ride of one of our investors. Bought with BTC profits, AFAIK.
You think that if we could afford to chuck money at a Lambo, we wouldn't have just ploughed the price of the Gallardo into the marketing budget ?  Shocked

EDIT:
+1 to JReag, btw, good post. Much agreement. The alias system is already running......someone just needs to code the browser as a plug-in.
I'll put it on the to-do list.......or, at least, the argue about endlessly list.

Ethereum announces that they've nearly run out of cash, won't be able to finish the project.......and the price goes up.
Nxt rolls out a major project in Greece with few hitches, and has a great conference presence in Rotterdam with loads of good PR......the price drops.

ETH may be broke, but they have a good idea that plenty of smart/rich people desire to see come to fruition.

NXT still does nothing useful, well over a year after its over-hyped launch made myriad promises its devs could not keep.

NAUT is yet-another-shitcoin-pump, not "a major project."  It's an Aurora-style airdrop backed by Paycoin-style 'Wall Street tycoons.'

Actually no, NAUT is just an excuse to waste money partying on an island with some models, Because (heh, heh  Wink) Marketing.

EvilDave makes his money writing new shitcoin code, so of course (from his POV) NXT's giant steaming pile of Java must be worth something.

But that's not how it works.  The world is littered with massive, abandoned heaps of code.  Many of those forlorn heaps are unfinished NXT/SuperNet assets/projects!   Grin

Two years ago, perhaps NXT was state of the art.  But it isn't relevant now, and never will be considered innovative again (if it ever was).

SuperNet is just the exit scam for the NXT pump-and-dump crew.  They'll keep on piling more blue-sky unicorn projects (omg Jumblr magically cleans your taint!!1!) until the greedy but credulous n00bs stop buying into them.

Just look at Pangea Poker.  It promised to meet the Holy Grail goal of decentralized poker, and took money from investors.

Then it sat for a year.  Deadlines were missed with no acknowledgement, much less forewarning or explanation.  Anyone asking WTF? was told to dig into obscure invite-only private forums.  jl777 suddenly discovered he needed to do other things to create the infrastructure for Pangea.  Thus the goalposts moved from "play money release in April" to "we need to create a 3-second block time coin first."  That must be some kind of record for goal post moving!

Look at these links and tell me Pangea is not emblematic of NXT/SuperNet's corrupt pattern and practice of announce-hype-pump-profit-dump-abandon scamming.

Just wanted to give another update on this project.  Nothing is happening, there is no team getting anywhere.  We are looking for developers that can get things done, and hoping for more investors to come forward and support that nothing is getting anywhere.  Once we figure out what decentralized poker is we can then consider setting the goals and scope of our project straight.  If anyone has any information on what we are doing, or what we should be doing then please let us know.  As you can see other projects aren't doing shit either, so take that as a sign that your money should be with us, and you should give us more money.

Thx for all the support and belief in our BS!

Also if anyone has any solutions for all the unsolved problems we still have PLEASE LET US KNOW!!!

Yay!...iCE, iCE, baby.
Had a feeling like something was missing from this thread.....and that was relentless negativity, coupled with a shaky grasp on the facts.
Like: I'm not a coder, iCE. Check my profile if you don't believe me.

EDIT:
And I actually turned down the gig on Agistri, and went to Rotterdam to talk motorbikes and Lambos instead.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ak1iojpiHpM

Here's the complete thread on getting that sorted out, gives a good insight into how Nxt actually works:

^^^^Blah blah blah...people and personalities and irrelevant biographical trivia...blah blah blah.

Do you have anything to say in defense of NXT/SuperNet's corrupt pattern and practice of announce-hype-pump-profit-dump-abandon scamming, as thoroughly demonstrated by the sad case of Pangea Poker?

If my grasp on the facts is "shaky" then correct me.

But you can't, because your own primary sources (blog, twitter, forum) confirm the fact Pangea was never anything but a pipe dream stoked by hopium.

iCE, the picture you are attempting to create just doesn't fit with any of the facts I have.
You, again, seem to have no grasp of how the Nxt community works.
I don't think I've ever even commented on a Pangea Poker thread, let alone been involved in its development. Try asking here:

jl777 has been working on Pangea, he posts quite often in the supernet slack about it. I know he recently got decentralized card shuffling working.

I'm not so involved with that, though, I don't know anything about poker.  Smiley

However, I know it will use peggy (now called PAX) will allow pangea to place bets in other currencies. PAX is now in testing, I submitted the code to James yesterday. It is integrated directly into BitcoinDark.

I can only assume the reason btcd price fell 30% today is due to the 1/tech rule.

From slack #pangea channel:

Quote
jl777 [10:11 AM]
getting the low level protocol working was tricky

jl777 [10:12 AM]
the proof of concept code was just not clean enough, so it is now split into a generic hostnet777, cards777 and pangea

jl777 [10:12 AM]
the hostnet allows any node to become a host for a spontaneous group, eg. poker table, jumblr group, p2p games, etc

jl777 [10:13 AM]
the cards777 allows the decentralized shuffling and dealing of both faceup and facedown "cards", it actually is just any set of small numbers

jl777 [10:14 AM]
the poker listings is just a test program for hostnet to make sure all the pm, broadcast, blindcast modes are working

jl777 [10:14 AM]
so it is cheating with a hardcoded testloop without any chance for out of sequence

jl777 [10:15 AM]
i have to now make a poker protocol that allows for all the various states and recovers to make sure the game completes

jl777 [10:16 AM]
but considering i have gone from no algo, to solving the mental poker protocol, to proof of concept to a hostnet/cards777 that is fully tested and working in 2 weeks, i feel like it is good progress

jl777 [10:17 AM]
just need a good day of progress to get the state machine working and then I need to use peggy for the real money betting,

jl777 [10:18 AM]
goals for this week is to release a working command line version that allows for testing of basic functions

jl777 [10:19 AM]
as it is being tested, i will do the peggy integration

jl777 [10:34 AM]
seems the community cards had a pair of Q

jl777 [10:35 AM]
but for now I just want to make sure the protocol is stable. with 9 players it is taking about 4 seconds for the entire game, which seems fast enough

jl777 [10:35 AM]
of course over real network it will take a lot longer, but even 30 seconds is fine

jl777 [10:35 AM]
heads up games go at several per second, far faster than people can play

jl777 [10:36 AM]
but there could be hosted bot tournaments where they play at that rate

...

jl777 [3:19 PM]
peggy will be used to allow betting in fiat equivalents

...

jl777 [3:38 PM]
i am just doing the low level API in a way that allows for any poker (or card game) or any other game of chance can be implemented

not much activity on the forum named after the most unique, useful, and buzz worthy crypto tool the world has ever seen!

https://nxtforum.org/freemarket/

Marketing 101:  When you keep your development news on the DL, your investors, put your equity price on the down low.  Nothing wrong with the secretive mad scientist approach, just don't expect your investors to invest in what they know nothing about.

If it's the Supernet, we're waiting on, then talk it up man, market it yourself here...to me... Let me know that when they get the Supernet bugs all worked out that they will be diving into the Freemarket development, and targeting a Q2 2016 release date.  Do you know why Ethereum is so far ahead?  Not because they are doing anything that you can't do, but because they are giving investors clarity...regular updates... Even if it's just "we will do POW for a year, then POS for a year with a 50% tax on miners to pay devs for more development.  Sounds silly, but clarity and transparency is everything to an investor, which is why immutable ledgers are the holy grail for investors, and why your tears are only making this tip of the iceberg bigger.

Have a read of my blog a few months ago, a bit outdated now but idea is still the same:

http://syscoin.org/in-depth-look-at-the-syscoins-decentralized-marketplace-and-comparing-it-to-the-competition/

Some of the value added services give syscoin the better architecture as well as fee scalability.

With ETH's sinking, NXT might have a breathing time, and furthermore, the whole ETH pump happened due to excitements that ETH will replace NXT.

This didn't happened, so now the NXT can enter into the spotlight once again.

Sometimes crypto makes me just go "wtf ? "

Ethereum announces that they've nearly run out of cash, won't be able to finish the project.......and the price goes up.
Nxt rolls out a major project in Greece with few hitches, and has a great conference presence in Rotterdam with loads of good PR......the price drops.

I'll be over here, banging my head against the wall for a while............ Huh

Not to be a jerk or sound arrogant, but I think it's pretty obvious what the deal is.

For the most part, no one gives a shit what kind of tech you roll out or what it's potential is.

Most of the people in the crypto space are day trading junkies who care if they can flip the shit for a profit in the next 5-30 minutes.

Building complex projects in Greece? Conferences? What does that do for them? You aren't gonna draw in their lot like that. (Who make up the majority atm)

People like Bitcoin because it's simple and works in doing what it claims it can do. These 2.0 platforms are just a big Huh? for most people. Failing to see your own weaknesses and thinking of how to compensate for them is one of the biggest blunders to be had IMO.

You go girl!

I hope you guys are right, ETH sucked out all innovation and capital out of NXT like a vampire.

And now it turns out to be a shady scam, it is unbelievable. I always trusted NXT, it is my friend coin, ETH is just a piece of scam in my views.

ETH's rise is somewhat coincident with NXT's fall, but not the cause.

NXT got off to a terrible start with distribution limited to a tiny handful of whales.

Then it was hollowed out by multiple forks of its code and socioeconomic ecosystem (NEM/SYS, and/or whatever they were called).

For over a year, NXT has been a solution in a futile search for a problem to solve.

It's old, outdated, and dying, just like the language in which it was written.

Insider: Oracle has lost interest in Java

New sources are stepping up questions about Oracle's stewardship of the Java development platform

There has been a lot of scuttlebutt lately about Oracle and a supposed de-emphasis on Java within the company. The rumblings are getting louder.

From the apparent dismissal of Java evangelists to an email alleging a shrugged-shoulders attitude about Java, Oracle’s commitment to the platform has come into question.

The email, sent to InfoWorld on Tuesday by a former high-ranking Java official, claimed to feature details from inside Oracle. It said the company was becoming a cloud company, competing with Salesforce, and "Java has no interest to them anymore." The subject line cited "Java -- planned obsolescence."

Yea but they got a huge dev team working in it actively, and they will fix any bug they found.

They put out many new innovations since their launch so it is a definitely a great currency to hold in my view.

The time of NXT will come, very very soon Smiley
