Hi!

I set up bitcoin long time ago, and have 0 BTC. I just re-installed the Bitcoin-core and it is syncing; how do I add my account from the past? I have the public and private key written down.

Also, I would like to buy 0.1 BTC, will pay USD with $300 exchange rate, just for kicks.  I'll pay cash in person to whomever is willing to meet me in NY - downtown or brooklyn - so I know how to do this...

Thanks!

You might look for Bitcoin Atm's I'm guessing in NY chances are there is one.   Also look on local bitcoin for something like this.   To be honest I doubt anyone will meet up for a .1 sell.

You could buy online not in person much easier.  Also this should chances are be put in another thread.

Hey bro you can post in the currency exchange section and tell that you are looking for an exchange from USD to BTC and that you want to trade in person. There is a chance someone will notice your post there rather than here in the begginer section. Wink

I can up it to 0.5... This is mostly a request for a private lesson, but I'll try in the exchange thread.

About BitcoinCore - how do I specify my old key?

Thanks!

The import private key feature works like a charm. Just put it there and your previous address/adresses will be contained in the core wallet.

You've written down the privkey, as in handwritten? Huh

The private key is the one starting with 5, L or K. To import it into your bitcoin core wallet click:

Help -> Debug Window -> Console

once you are there you need to unlock your wallet for 120 seconds (or less) with:

walletpassphrase YourSecretPasswordHere 120

Make sure you have no shoulder surfer, the password will not be masked.

Once your wallet is unlocked you have 120 seconds to import the private key with:

importprivkey 5....

The wallet will rescan the blockchain to search for transactions, even if there are none. This can take a while.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

You can try localbitcoins. There are probably many people in New York who are willing to do an in-person trade and many of them are on localbitcoins. Just make sure you always use their escrow and wait for some confirmations.

You can also try to find a bitcoin atm.

Why just not use a Bitcoin Atm as someone suggested? I see this as the easiest option by far! You have one in Bitcoin center in New York. Over there you can also learn a lot about Bitcoin and there are many helpful people that can help you.

If I was you, I would make it a nice Bitcoin day out!

I think that he probably doesn't want to send all of the personal informations, social security number, etc, for just a 0.5 BTCs. This just ain't worth a trouble.

Use localbitcoin right, you can make a deal with people around you, and maybe he/she can meet in real life.

Use an exchanges service is need to verify and give your personal information, but you can make a trade more easily and not worry to scam, use circle, coinbase or the new one, Gemini exchanges.

You can choose it.
