I have dabbled around with mining bitcoins before, but as i only had one graphics card (nvidia 560ti) i didn't want to be using a full load whilst doing other things. The card did not run too stable at 100 percent load. I recently got given an ATI Radeon 5770. I am quite aware that i cannot get them to run together in any sort of crossfire/SLI manner. But what i was hoping is that i could use one card (the nvidia) to go about my business, (games, browsing, teamspeak etc) and have the ATI sitting their mining bitcoins. I have installed all the drivers required, catalyst drivers, openCL all that bollocks. I am using GUIMiner and have a pool set up with slush.

I can start mining with my nvidia GPU just fine.. all be it a bit unusable in the process. Interestingly i downloaded MSI afterburner and Kombuster to underclock my nvidia gpu to see if i could get it running more stable. It picked up the ATI Radeon but wouldn't let me change clock speeds, voltages etc. This seems odd since i can literally pull the DVI out of my Nvidia GPU put it in the ATI and have my desktop appear just fine. The card appears to be working. I have tried different versions of the drivers, using a dummy plug but to avail. Two different versions of GUI miner (only one of which actually detects the card as juniper)

When i start to mine with the Juniper i get this error TypeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute '_getitem_'

has anyone got any suggestions? must appreciated

thanks

I ran gtx670 and radeon 5970 at the same time. Playing on nvidia and mining on radeon.
Nvidia was on hdmi and radeon was on dvi. Both plugged into the same monitor at once.
I had to change my input to dvi, then go to the catalyst control panel and set the radeon to that desktop (in my case it was #2).
Then go back to hdmi input and set nvidia to the other desktop (#1).

After that I was able to change speeds in msi afterburner and mine.

okay, so this is quite strange.

i go to that ATI catalyst control center, go to 'desktop management' -> 'creating and arranging desktops' and it tells me that it is number 1. I got the Nvidia control panel 'display' -> set up multiple displays and it also tells me it is 1. If i make a change on either set of drivers (resolution or contrast) then they will both change my monitor settings. Is this because i have the 560 DVI to DVI and the ATI DVI to VGA? When i change the input on my monitor from DVI to VGA it gets no signal? I will quickly try plugging the ATI in with VGA as opposed to DVI and see what happens

thanks for the reply ^^

i don't know if it is any help, but i was mining with my GTX and playing games on the Radeon when i had the DVI out on the Radeon and nothing plugged into the GTX. Perhaps if i swapped the cards PCI slots?

It's strange.
I had input from both graphics cards that's how I was able to assign desktops.
You could try going to devices and printers and see if windows can see 2 monitors. If you have both graphics cards plugged in into the monitor, it should show you 2 monitors one with dvi input and 1 with vga. You might have to add/detect a new device in there, maybe it will help.

Yeah it is showing up with two monitors. When the DVI is plugged into the ATI and the VGA into the Nvidia i can't access most of the Nvidia control panel. It allows me to see 'device settings, system information and profile policies. When i plug it into the DVI i get all options again.

Both sets of drivers are only detecting one monitor for some reason.

This might be a format scenario.. just far too lazt at the moment
