its so easy you just login to your blockchain wallet and go to receive addy and click action and the sign message

It's something that people use to proof the ownership of a specific address , so unless you own the private keys of an address you won't be able to sign a message .
you see it on Auction account because people sell their accounts , and to proof to the buyer that they the account is their own and not a hacked one , they should sign a message of an address posted months ago somewhere on the forums.

Signed message is one of bitcoin technology. By signing a message and sending it to someone they can verify that the message came from you and was not changed in transit. that's what i got from multibit.
