Why aren't my free site bitcoins coming through?

I have done some digging and found some sites that provide free bitcoins that many many people have said worked. The site(s) have not given me my bitcoins in the time specified or 3 days later despite providing my proper bitcoin adress and completed the task they asked me. what am i doing wrong?

Most of those sites are doing the giveaway once a day to minimize fees, so you have to wait a bit.
Some of them (like dailybitcoins, or bitvisitor) offer immediate payout

Thanks, I know im new to this but i was told by site it would send them within 24 hours, its been 48. is this normal?

Check with blockexplorer to see if they sent them.

If watch the Free Bitcoin Sites thread you can stay updated on what sites are working
and what ones may be down for various reasons.  These sites are verified before being
added to the list and are checked everyday by me and other followers of the thread.
 
Many of these free BTC site's owners/operators follow the thread as well and will post
themselves when there is something to report about their site. 

Beware of copy-cat threads and web pages, who don't take care to check or maintain
their listings and often have dubious sites/links ( sometimes hidden behind url-shortener links...
i.e. you can't be sure what site you are actually going to when you click on their links. )
