Xmr is based on cryptonote (is a fork of cryptonote?)  and is not a fork of bitcoin. Cryptonote was already developed in 2012.  By that year bytecoin already used cryptonote.  XMR was developed in 2014 it can be seen that cryptonote protocol is already very well developed. (Some jargon about anonymoty) currently domestically attention is not veing paid to the issue of anonymity which recieves more attention overseas.  Monero is a word from (Esperanto???) it means money in (esperanto??)  at time of writing monero is world rank number 21 in altcoins.
