Hey guys i was looking at some online wallets. What are your opinions on bitcoin core vs coinbase and which one is used more often?

Desktop wallets are more secure then Blockchain.info or Coinbase.com but none of them will help if your PC contains malwares or viruses .
I'd go with Bitcoin core if you ask me however the only thing that most people don't like on that wallet is downloading the blockchain, so you may consider downloading Lightweight like Electrum and you will even have the ability to restore your wallet in case of computer failure or something using the "seed" (which is a bunch of words) .
