ASIC mining software?

I recently decided to learn more about mining. I know I'm late to the game, and that CPU/GPU mining is probably a waste of time, but I have some questions.

1. Will BFL's ASIC devices have their own software or use the normal miners and software everyone uses for pools and mining now?
2. Should I learn the current methods of GPU mining as practice if I want to buy an ASIC rig?
