Yeah, I pretty much agree right now.

It can be fun to maximize profits through random alt mining and diffuse some hashrate.  However, profitability with per block adjustments are tricky to calculate.

Keep in mind, bitcoin is just technology. I think people are getting a little too comfortable with the perceived value of their chain of hashes. Technology evolves.

With the memory of Bitcoin 2010 fresh in memory, what's to lose with exposing yourself to PPCoin for a small amount?

It depends how much you trust a single, secretive developer with your money.  Unlike bitcoin development, improvements to the chain are completed by a single person without public testing or public awareness.

If the whole team of bitcoin developers have already introduced a couple catastrophic errors into their chain (overflow transaction generation bug, recent blocksize incompatibility bug) that required a hard-coded fork of the chain to correct, would you really feel confident that PPC can, in the long term, provide you with security?

I would love to recommend PPC and its technical paper, but I can't recommend the former because the latter simply doesn't exist in any adequate fashion.

I admit that it's Sunny King's enthusiasm that got me convinced just to park some on my hard drive. As long as it is not open source, it's basically a gamble. To me, it is a better gamble that it concerns something new than the known spin offs of Bitcoin. A better bet than the lottery I would say.

Well, the source code is published on github, but no technical explanation of many of the properties or of the new update has ever been given.

ppcoin is open-source. I don't know why people get this idea that it is not.

It's open source and same license as bitcoin (MIT). Everyone is free to fork and experiment and that's exactly what novacoin did.

Lol ok. Well you can't stop someone who wants to believe anything they are told. Ppc is open but the development isn't. It is secretive.

Er, calm down. I never said it wasn't open source, neither did tacotime.

Um no...I'm afraid you are not reading.

Notice the development tree is a direct copy/paste (as is much of the whitepaper). It's not actually documenting the functions and with a centralized coin, that's especially important.

'experiment' isn't the first thing I like to hear with code that represents value.

Lol lets say it one more time. Plc can be open source but if development is not publicly discussed it puts a hamper on the project. Being close minded about development wing made public is a fatal flaw. Why would sunny not want public input into his PPC project? I'm sure he isn't a godlike coder that can see every flaw or make the perfect design. If he was he would have already up published a white paper being thorough on the design choices.

All the code is out there in the open, anyone is free to look through it. No-one says he is a godlike coder, that is why there is a tournament being arranged to investigate any weaknesses in the system. You do realise weaknesses were found in Bitcoin too in it's early days?

Remember PPCoin isn't just a cheap knock off bitcoin clone like most other alt currencies, this is innovative work and it's still in it's infancy. Over the coming months the project is just going to continue growing.

Just like all the interest is growing - see the pictures I link to in my original post.

I'm not claiming PPCoin is the next bitcoin but I don't think it should be written off and it has a lot of potential... but I know I can't win you over, you are team LTC til you die.

Well baby jesus, ain't that wondrous ?Cheesy

Luckily, source code equals documentation and thorough testing. Yep.
