If i don't find anything interesting on the first page or two of threads, how far into the threads can i go until it is frowned upon?

There are a rare few topics that might keep going over many months or years, with lots of information accrued and it's fine to keep adding to it. Most subjects will contain everything necessary within 10 pages and run out of steam, if they don't have a new post for 3 or 4 weeks you better have some quality information to add to the conversation. As long as you're not doing it to spam the odd one doesn't matter.

you can post on them only if what you want to ad is very relevant to the discussion, otherwise don't bother, because the topic will be locked or your msg deleted, or even banned if you do it often

If you mean, how many pages from the unread posts since your last visit can you go back before it becomes awkward?:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=unread

I just checked :the first 28 pages had a reply less or equal to 24 hours ago. That being said: i guess you can post to a thread as long as it contributes to the discussion. I've seen people post in threads where the last post was months ago to report bugs, or an altcoin takeover. I tought this was perfectly ok. On the other side, i've seen people wanting to build up activity by posting nonsense into threads that were old, i think they got a warning for doing so.

Posting in old topics is fine I guess as long as you post constructively. It's kind of frowned upon sometimes if the bumped post is full of shit by a signature campaign participant. It's pretty obvious why they've done it then. Be careful or you could easily get a ban.

Necroposting is not allowed. If the topic is trending with no posts in it since a week or two and you truly have something constructive to contribute to it,you may.If the last post made in the topic was a month or months back ,more like  a dead thread, you aren't suppose to resurrect it because once you do,the sig spamming follows. The rules are subjective to change in special cases ,depending on how relevant your post is.

If you are reported for necroposting ,your posts will be deleted.

Where did you get this from? According to this post by mprep on the rules list, so long as it does not break any of the other rules necroposting is completely allowed.

As said previously in the thread, so long as your post abides by the rules then it is allowed.

Quote
Regarding necro posting, if the necro post is substantial (doesn't break the rule especially rule 1 and 2 (2014/07/21 version)), then it's OK.

Quote
Rule 1 and Rule 2
1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads. [1][e]

2. No off-topic posts.

This is exactly what I meant by

you truly have something constructive to contribute to it,you may.

I noticed a few new accounts that keep pulling up threads from Dec. 2015 in offtopic usually and usually pointless threads to make one of those "I know I can relate to what you are meaning" responses and never come back to it.
The thought that alwasy wanders through my head is why are they drawing from a set time in the past,is it they are starting at a certain number and working forward or does some kind of posting bot start at this point.
It seems super fishy when I look at member with 30 posts all in one day and they all are 4 months old.

Still have a hard time navigating the searches and tend to use google if bitcoinforum does not work, which is often for me.
If the thread is super old I leave it but read the responses to see if what I want is in it. If I am desperate I try google again to find the actual info. Still unlucky I may pose it in a similar thread in a slight hijack, like yourself I worry about necro bumping threads.

Usually I go back 8 pages as my limit, those are usually all still in the same day.

I actually think it's perfectly okay to post in year old topics. If you found the thread and you'd be interested in discussing, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If a user had any issues with an old thread they created and didn't want anyone posting in it anymore, they should've either deleted it or completely locked it. If they don't, it's still up for discussion. I actually don't understand when some people are aggravated by people that bump year old threads. I see nothing wrong with that. A topic is a topic. A comment is a comment. Let a voice be heard.

Mods do, but if you are posting crap you will get banned. Most people bumping old threads have nothing to do add, but crap.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.
