It is a webcomic site. There are many users who still love web comic so i think it was a nice idea. Not only that, but he
 also gave up some nice choices of webcomic type to its readers.

Thats a link to its donation page. Go to xkcd.com if you want to see his service. Site is not for donation only it provides up webcomic service.

OMG I just donated 2 BTC to that address!! And I now realize I don't even know what XKCD stands for, I sure hope it's for a good cause   Seriously man, it would've been nice if you shared some detail along with that address. I apologize if it's just me though, maybe everyone else knows what XKCD is

It's just a website where the creator makes small comics. I think 100% of content creators will end up accepting BTC because paypal donations are just annoying as hell to deal with compared to simply having a BTC address.
We need confidential transactions and default coinjoin first tho, since if you are accepting donations, people can see how much money you are making which is stupid.
