He's out.  Got out a long time ago.  In Japan, they go pretty soft on guys if they say sorry and bow down.  Pretty much a slap on the wrist is enough.  I think Mark is in Monaco on the beach now.

Japanese jail doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to me. And when you look at the 99% conviction rate it doesn't look like they give much of a shit about treating you right either.

good news: he is:

bad news: i guess he will be out in 30 years  Cry

Wonder what will happen when he's released if some of the bitcoin addresses used in 'the heist' have coins moved.

Who is he Huh

The guy responsible for giving bitcoin its worth. Without him, we'd be trading in double digits now.

How do you get to that? He is actually the opposite of what you saying.... without him we would have been trading in quadruple digits by now. The amount of damage Mt Gox caused the reputation of Bitcoin,

is simple enormous. A lot of people got burned in the most early stages of it's adoption phase... some of those people turned against Bitcoin and are spreading FUD all over the place. In almost every media

coverage or content being created about Bitcoin... Mt Gox or Silkroad are mentioned at least once.  Angry

While Mt Gox effectively goxxed the world, Silk Road has a pretty interesting effect I think. It brought us some criminals, who have indeed more money that Michelle, 89 years old, and his cat.

Surely it was the only game in town for many years. Maybe somewhere else would've opened up but there wouldn't have been any type of economy without it. If only he'd shut down when he was still ahead.

Most likely he is still in the jail. I think he better stays there as many are still after an explanation from him, the moment he is out of the prison.

Source?
Don't listen to him, he's talking out of his ass.  But someone must know if he's still locked up.  Did no one from this wonderful worldwide community send him commissary money?

Thx  Wink

i guess we would know already if Mark would be free.

Did a quick search and I found him right away: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1376899.msg14779764#msg14779764

Mt. Gox certainly damaged Bitcoin, regardless of whether or not it was the first exchange to technically exist. It should have been treated way better and there should have been some professionalism with the collapse instead of the BS we see today.

The thing is, Mt. Gox shouldn't have shut down when it was ahead either, because that would have likely been detrimental as well, but maybe less so than the collapse of the exhange.

I think we would know because the investors that lost the most out of it would of put a hit out on him already. It would be front page news.

Dude - he is in Monaco right now.  Japanese jail only tries to save face by keeping quiet what is really going on.  They got nothing on Karpeles.  He moved around a lot of bits - just information in a silly scheme of number in some made up ledger.  He didn't do anything illegal in view of actual laws, or in the sense of actual money.  He went free a long time ago.
