Ripple Ripoff

I sold an altcoin for Ripple (XRP) a few days ago and decided to log into my Ripple account. Well, surprise! They have a new platform starting (Ripple Trade) that you have to identity verify and wait for days. In the meantime, I am wondering why I cannot log into my original account to access the several hundred XRP I had there. For starters, they should have notified their users via email that there was a new platform replacing the old. Duh! Their support was no help at all.. told me that I should transfer my XRP from my old account to the new. How would I do that when the old account is out of reach?? I went back and forth with them the last few days.. checked their forum and saw that others had the same issue as me. They are basically STEALING the XRP for anyone who was caught unawares. Please avoid these folks, as they are not working above board...

Update:  Ripple Trade approved my proof of identity, so the next step is Account Activation. There are only 2 ways to do that. Have another user transfer at least 20 XRP to your user name (I do not know anyone to do this for me, so..) or deposit BTC via btc2ripple. So, while trying the second option and watching nothing happening, I opened the user agreement and BEHOLD! btc2ripple will not do business with US customers. Huh?? So, I write their support yet again with this new problem only to get a lame reply of "use some other service for the BTC deposit". WHAT?!?! Your page only allows btc2ripple for the account validation deposit. So basically, I cannot activate my account. Did they offer to help by maybe.. umm.. just frickin' ACTIVATING my account for me? Nope.

Forget Ripple...it is centralized. I think that Ripple Labs own most of the coins, not to mention that now they will require identity verification in order to access your account? Seriously? I thought that cryptos were supposed to be a system where you can make transactions without the need for ID, right? (correct me if I'm wrong)

Anyways, I suggest that you use a truly decentralized (like most coins) and anonymous coin such as Monero (XMR) or other coins that use the Cryptonote algorithm.

Good morning ! Better to wake up later than never. Actually these are about two or three month old news, and the Ripple guys sent a couple of warning emails when the FinCEN grabbed their balls back in May...

There are alternative wallets you could use to move your XRP with, but use them at your own risk. For some you need your secret key. For others you need your ripple name and wallet password. There is a wallet maintained by the community that only requires your name and password here. It's SSL certificate isn't authentic so you will have to ignore the warning about it if you use the chrome browser.

Try going through the Gear icon (top right) > Settings > Networks and servers.

Ensure these defaults are set:

Someone from the community also created a minimalist wallet that's only a webpage that you can save and run directly from your computer. It needs your secret key and looks very basic. Here's the community thread about it.

There's also a wallet you can download and run from your desktop like a bitcoin wallet, but you need your secret key to use it. Ripple labs used to provide a download link, but don't anymore. The community provided some links in this thread to a version they made some bug fixes to.
