... since I last mess with BTC stuff.

So I just downloaded bitcoin-qt from http://bitcoin.org/ - the Windows (zip) version.
It'll be running on Win7. Just want to make sure the following is still true.

1) Unzip the bitcoin-qt file
2) Run it so it'll create a wallet.dat and folder structure in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin
3) Copy my old wallet.dat to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin

And I should see my balance once the sync with network is completed.

Are those still the steps? Do I have to do anything extra / special with the new btc client?

Thanks!

Yes, that's still the procedure, though don't forget to close Bitcoin before copying your wallet.dat file. And your balance should show up immediately after copying your old wallet, though it will be unconfirmed (and unspendable) until the client has synchronised with the network.

If your bitcoins don't show up, when you have replaced the wallet, then close bitcoin and restart bitcoin with "-rescan" parameter.

E.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe -rescan"
You only need to do this once.

Cool. Thanks a bunch. Just didn't want to mess up all my BTC now that it's in the USD40s range
