Sending bitcoin with bitcoind

With the current high value of bitcoin, I decided to sell the 1.01xxx BTC I have mined.
I set up an account on coinbase, verified my bank account (several days), then I sent a small transfer from my bitcoin wallet on my personal linux server to coinbase.

The correct amount was deducted from my wallet, but the transaction has still not shown up in coinbase.  In addition, blockchain.info still shows this as unconfirmed some 24 hours later.

I could be just expecting the transaction to complete too soon.

What is very confusing to me is the information reported on blockchain.info.

I sent 0.01640838 BTC to 16hkMKhmazo4udY1tvWjeTXVhvkPKkwF7T

but blockchain shows two destinations:
1GCmz6QVdHGRUL4Rk7EgPvRVRoic3rxekN 0.01000748 BTC
16hkMKhmazo4udY1tvWjeTXVhvkPKkwF7T 0.01640838 BTC

Is this normal?

It is very normal to have two outputs - one being the amount you are sending to another party and the other being "change" being sent back to your wallet (to normally a new address).

Perhaps you need to do some learning about Bitcoin basics?

(one of the main reasons that a Bitcoin "wallet" is called that is because of the nature of "change" much like when you are paying for 10 and pull out a 20 to then get a 10 back)

If not confirmed after 24 hours then I suspect you did not pay a large enough fee (or perhaps the coins "immature" as you mentioned that they were mined).

thank you for the response.  These coins were mined over a year ago, so they should be mature.

Can you please explain the fee to me.
I used the command:
bitcoind sendtoaddress address amount

bitcoind responded with a transaction ID, which I used to look up the transaction on blockchain.info.

Where does the fee come from?  Will the transaction eventually complete if I didn't send a fee?  How much is the fee.

Is your version of bitcoind also over 1 year old?

This might explain why the fee might be too small (an old version of bitcoind is likely to underestimate the required fee).

Note that if your tx has insufficient fee then you are either going to wait until it matures (that could be a long time) or you are going to have to stop bitcoind and remove the tx from your wallet (you'll need to take a look at the -zapwallettxes start up option).

Looks as though it should get confirmed soon enough so perhaps just be patient.

Hmm... hang on - "walletconflicts" doesn't look right (don't think I've noticed that in my own txs before).

I see that there is a settxfee command.  How would I determine the fee for the next time I send BTC?

I would be scared to use bitcoind to be honest. Cvars in general scare me but when it comes to bitcoin is way way worse, you can fuck up and send an huge fee or some sort of mistake like that so stay safe.

The big mistakes made with huge fees were when using "raw transactions" (which the OP is not doing).

That being said @OP do be careful to check you have set things correctly before attempting another tx.
