What has changed in the past year?

So I had an HDD crash, loosing all my wallet, the day before I was planning to backup my wallets. Which cause me to become very frustrated, and leave Bitcoin for a year.

All I know that happened so far is that Gavin attempted to scam with Craig Wright by saying hes Satoshi.
