Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by the Winklevoss twins, is expanding into the U.K, the company said on Tuesday.

...Gemini has been on an aggressive expansion path since its October launch. It has begun operations in Canada and announced its U.K. launch on Tuesday. Customers in Britain can now buy ether with bitcoin and sell ether for bitcoin. Soon, Gemini will add support for trading bitcoin and ether with U.S. dollars for U.K. and Canadian users, a feature already available to all of its U.S. customers.

Only English-speaking countries...
Their expansion is good but I'm waiting for their expansion in continental Europe. They could, they should have opportunities in Switzerland.

I used to be a citizen and a taxpayer. Those days are long gone.

the regulations fine print (systems and processed) in US and UK are quite similar.
the amount of agencies involved in the UK is small(FCA) and makes the UK easier to set up.

however in the EU there are many angencies(BaFin) and departments(ESA,EBA,ESMA,ESRB) that want to be part of it.

so it makes sense to expand where its easiest first. as getting into the UK is a helpful stepping stone to then get into the EEA single market regulated by the EU at a later date.

in short i think its the smartest action they could do. especially after being left sitting on their hands for 2 years waiting on america to green light gemini. they are not going to jump straight into another 2 year long process as their venture outside the US.

if it was my business i would be privately handling EU applications, while publicly promoting the UK expansion at the same time. that way they are not advertising a "lets wait another 2 years to expand to EU" but a "expect UK next year"... then next year happens, " expect EU soon". which just sounds alot better as a constand flow of growth

Hope they can expand to ASIA,ASEAN too. it has a huge market here and bitcoin is quite popular already here. It is a welcome addition if ever, as it has only limited exchanges here esp. in PH.

In the UK it's eth/btc only. Why the hell would a Brit shop there when there's a million other alt exchanges and some are gonna have a mountain more volume and no KYC stuff?

Either way it's still good and it looks like gemini's aiming to go worldwide someday. Maybe it really will become the nasdaq of bitcoin.
