Hello all. I am very new to the bitcoin scene, but have probably spent the better part of 10 hours researching, and I'm stumped.

I have actually reformatted (rather, restored an image file which I made) in an attempt to get Guiminer to detect my card, no luck.

My current set up is a Dell XPS Laptop:

Windows 7 (64 bit)
4 GB RAM
ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 5730
i7 processor

I have downloaded more versions of CCC and SDK and OpenCL and Stream than I can count. Every time I launch gui miner it only shows the i7. Before I tinkered with it it used to say no cl devices (and also used to pop up mentioning ati cards at launch of program). I have not completed the download of blocks in bitcoin program, but it is over half way done.

I have registered for a pooling community as well.

I don't understand why it won't pick up the card. Device manager reads it. GPU CAPS reads it (I think?).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please tell me what other information I can post to help.

Also, have a nice day Cheesy

while you should be able to get it working -
what ATI drivers are you using - post links if possible

you will probably not find it too useful as you will kill your laptop

In the Beginning there was CPU , then GPU , then FPGA then ASIC, what next I hear to ask ....

Well, I have accidental coverage for another year on this POS computer, but on a side note, do you really think it would fry it? I hate calling Dell Sad

According to Device Manager, The Driver version is : 8.692.1.0 which is dated 1/22/2010

When I run a search for a driver update, it says I have the best one.

I am running Catalyst Control Center Version 2010.0122.858.16002 and Microsoft .Net Framework Version 2.0.50727.5466

No links at the moment. I am kind of unsure how much I have installed at this point and may just reload the image again to start from scratch. It only takes 15 ish minutes. I guess I would have to download the bitcoin blocks again (or back them up but not sure how and don't want to mess up the integrity of the program). Also, not sure if it really even matters if I finished downloading them or not.

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/catalyst_mobility_64-bit_util.exe
may be the one to use
as will it fry it ...
yes / no / YMMV
it runs the video core at 99-100% 24/7 so will reduce the lifetime of it ....
I'll let others tell you how much you are likely to make

That worked! I have used so many different versions I was convinced it wasn't going to work, but then it showed up! Thank you so much!!! Cheesy. I seem to be averaging 50 Mhash/s . Also, I ran it for a while, then exited the program, went back to the website and it showed my estimated reward was 0.00000 when it showed a value before. I did 36 "shares" and then i turned it off. It's on right now. I monitored the estimated reward as I established more shares and it would go up and down in value the more shares I did. So I am wondering, 1) why did the value of the estimated reward go up and down as I did more shares?   2) Why is there no estimated reward for what i did after quitting (it still showed how many shares i did)?  3) Why now that I have restarted does it not show the old shares i did, and only the shares that i have done right now?   4) is 50 Mhash/s good, and could i do better with my hardware?

Thank you again!!!! Cheesy
