what doesnt make sense to me is why he would be going through all this trouble to scam a fraction of 1 btc if he has already proved he owns 1000+btc. usually i say things like if its too good to be true then it probably is. But this case has me stumped.

Which is why a compromise makes more sense in a case like this. Whole situation still a bit unusual though.
