Op-Ed: Now Is the Summer of Our Discontent – Bring on the Decentralized Exchanges

With a consistent flurry of hacks, thefts, and other worrisome attacks directed against various exchanges and the much-hyped DAO, there is a growing feeling in some quarters that all is not right in the world of cryptocurrency. That feeling is being reinforced by seemingly inconsistent responses to cryptocurrency holder losses, and a growing sense of unease about how many of these issues will play out in the coming months and years. Current exchanges being nothing more than amateurs, or even rookies, is the exact reason of why institutional investors aren't on board yet. And I can't really blame them for that. Just look at the trail of destruction that exchanges have left behind so far. It's pathetic. For years people have been asking for decentralized exchanges, but so far nothing serious popped up. And to be honest, I don't think they will within a reasonable amount of time.

Bitsquare is the first decentralised exchange worthy of the title, launched officially a few months ago.

Right now, we’re trying to convince the world that cryptocurrency can do everything that we say it can, in a fair and transparent manner. If that creed doesn’t look like it’s actually being taken to heart by everyone in the community, then it’s going to be an even tougher sell to the broader global audience.
