If you want to mine the Ethereum, the 470 is better as it has fewer cores so the power consumption is lower, but has the same hashing rate.

480 is a full chip, gives more possibilities in other algos, and difference in power consumption is not such a big problem. If price is the same take faster card.

If I could get this card the rx 470 sapphire for 190 it is a good deal

and I can get it for 185. 

  With  no mods it does 22mh  and with  a simple power downclock it uses about 110 watts at the kwatt meter

so you can build nice four, five ,six card rigs with it.

Now down the road  it may not resell as well as this card

It is quite difficult to decide which one to use, the 470 or 480. 480 should be better for GPU intensive algorithms.

 MH/watt on those cards seems to be a tossup if comparing 8GB to 8GB cards, so for the SAME PRICE and factoring in the power consumption of the ENTIRE SYSTEM best to go with the rx 480.

 Problem is that the prices vary a lot, as does the reliability of each brand, and AVAILABILITY is a major issue for the entire AMD RX 4xx series - you often have to "take what you CAN get".

I went 480 myself because the price was about the same for 470s.
I also think 480 cards will be easier to sell further on.

If you just want to mine the Ethereum, the RX 470 4GB is the best. If you want to mine other coins, the 480 is better.
