While it's nice to see Twitch re-adding a possibility for paying with Bitcoin it's less positive that they are using Coinbase. There has been a significant number of user complaints regarding Coinbase, leaving the impression that it acts similar to Paypal.

In general it is disappointing to see so many companies using third parties (payment providers) to accept Bitcoin. Even disregarding the privacy issues that come with using US payment providers it is also detrimental for Bitcoin's success as a independent currency, because complexity, time lags and transaction costs are added to the transactions. After all, Bitcoin was invented to make owning and managing money independent of third parties (government, banks) easier. Given the simplicity of accepting Bitcoin without the help of third parties it is not understandable why the majority of companies acts this way.

That's what I was thinking too, though it's better than not accepting Bitcoin payments at all.
But I am dissapointed that they're using Coinbase's name in the payment logo instead of just using Bitcoin itself.

I wonder how this would look for sites or maybe the gambling sites now that Twitch finally is using BTC again thru Coinbase. Would this encourage them to follow the move?

But all in all the news is quite encouraging.

twitch is just a streaming site and something like youtube and has nothing to do with games or gambling. and they are not really receiving bitcoin either, you pay with bitcoin but they receive the fiat value of it after the conversion.

But I wondering if we as the watcher subscribe or tip the streamers, will they accept the money as Bitcoin or as USD or any other currency?
If turns out that the streamers will accept the money as USD, is there any option that they can accept it just as a Bitcoin?

why they use coinbase rather than use wallet address? i hope next time, they will add personal wallet address for payment too so we have another option to pay with bitcoin.

A bitcoin logo that redirects to coinbase would be much better in terms of promotion.

your statement that i bold, definitely right, even they're using coinbase API for payment gateway,it's definitely not right to use coinbase's logo too, people who uses bitcoin but doesn't even know what is coinbase could potentially don't recognize that bitcoin is already accepted there

Hello there, I think coin_detective is right. I checked the site and I confirmed that Twitch already added Bitcoin as payment directly, hmm it seems that it's Xsolla (USA) Inc. via bitpay? Well, good for the subscribers and for bitcoin as well, it can gain popularity on twitch users. You can see it yourself on the site or just take a look with the screenshot below.
