Don't 1oz coins usually sell for significantly above spot?

If there is something that will make Bitcoin succeed, it is growth of utility - greater quantity and variety of goods and services offered for BTC. If there is something that will make Bitcoin fail, it is the prevalence of users convinced that BTC is a magic box that will turn them into millionaires, and of the con-artists who have followed them here to devour them.

Not necessarily. It depends what kind of coin, first of all. There are Gold Eagles, Kruggerands, and more generic Gold Buffaloes, etc. Random years in non-mint packaging do go for a premium over spot, but not tremendously.

Through dealers, yes apparently. But is the same true for person to person?

Well obviously that and the extent of it is decided by the two parties. But generally an individual can not expect the premium a dealer would.
