Simply put they build lies. Lies are not reality. However they know reality even if they chose to hide it. Goebbels and his writers, perception managers, behavioral scientists, photographers and war reporters knew how operation Bagration was moving forward... Overwhelming forces pushing and killing them as fast as possible. And still they were writing that everything was going well for them... The most stupid was the little German child who a few months later would be standing in a Berlin street ready to repel the Soviets experienced forces... Just pathetic.
