I set up a Windows PC to mine lite coins using CPU. While I wasn't expecting any crazy results, the only messages I can see in the litecoin window are "Mining started) and nothing else. The hashes per second shows a number (i think around 7k); is it normal to not see any other messages in the window? Am I just wasting electricity? Tongue All I want is to mine 1 block, it's an experiment.

That's completely fine, I just wonder if the fact that there is no visual feedback is normal, other than the words "started mining".

I was really pissed off when I remembered my graphics card was incompatible with this PC so it has a shitty intel hd card boo!

Unfortunately, yes.  It is a "hard" problem... and it takes time.

Hehe ok got it, i was just expecting it to say something like "update: you've been failing for the last hour" ;-) Its good to know its not stuck on some infinite loop and the hashes per second mean nothing.

Anyway, I've joined a pool with it and now it is doing 3 times the hashing speed (I guess because it doesnt have to download all these blocks?). It's looking better now, its making 40 cents a day, lol. I'm rich!

if you're mining Litecoins, you should use GUIMiner and your GPU (should have 2 options, 0-0 and 0-1 "cpu name" 0-0 is your GPU), try different intensities.

intensity 0 means off, it wont mine.
intensity 20 is dangerous, hope you're living in the poles or have a fire extinguisher nearby.

personally, i have an AMD 6870, i leave my computer mining at Intensity 14 all day and manually set the fans to work at 90% and the temperature never exceeds 80 Celsius (GPU fans are programmed to never work at high % unless your card is already burning when you set it on auto, this is a trick they use to make you purchase new cards).

the only downside here is the noise, high % fans, higher noise.
