transaction rejected

Hi Guys,

Im struggling a bit. 3 years ago i jumped on the bitcoin rocket and since then i havent  paid much attention to it  .
But now i want to sell the coins i collected 3 years ago and im running into all kinds of problems.
When i send coins via my wallet (Bitcoin QT) i get an error:
the transaction was rejected! this might happen if some of the coins in your wallet were already spent, such as if you used a copy of wallet.dat and coins were spent in the copy but not marked as spent here.
Since i havent done anything with these coins for the last 3 years, i find it hard to believe ive spent them.
Any ideas how to solve this or are the coins really gone?

Just a couple of questions:
1) which version of bitcoin core are you using
2) which OS
3) was your wallet fully sync'ed
4) any chance of posting some of the addresses, so we can have a look for ourselfs?

Im using Bitcoin Core 0.13.1 on a windows 7 64 bit system.
Wallet is fully synced.
Since i havent used this in a while, where can i find an adress?

When i go to receiving adresses i find one adres: 17nxEdzonsk5muyV2LMMx87vFZSPbj3jSk
when i look it up on the blockchain i see that a transaction has taken place in 2016-06-13.
however i do not see this transaction in my wallet, i still see my bitcoins there.

When looking at this address using the blockchain.info block explorer:

you can see there was an incoming transaction of ~1BTC on 30/11/2013 and an outgoing transaction of ~1BTC on 13/6/2016, leaving a balance of 0.

This basically means the output of tx of 30/11/2013 were used as inputs on 13/6/2016. Either somebody hacked your pc , got your private key and stole your BTC, or you created a transaction using the only input your wallet ever got, and sent your BTC either to yourself or to somebody else.

The only reason why you still see 1 BTC in your wallet i can currently think of is if the wallet isn't sync'ed completely.

In the case you got hacked, and your BTC was stolen, i guess you're out of luck  
In the second case (you created a transaction using the only output you got as an input, and sent the BTC to yourself), you might want to make 100% sure you're fully sync'ed.
The btc that were transferred on 13/6/2016 haven't moved since: https://blockchain.info/address/1CyyfFkwMopGbs3UTAwDtbWyWjgVKAnnLp
This could potentially mean you sent them to yourself, but because your wallet isn't sync'd, they aren't visible to you yet. It could also mean the hacker hasn't touched his stolen funds after the initial thefth.

I do find it intriguing that the transaction of 2016 has 2 outputs: a big one and an output of 0.001. Having 2 outputs USUALLY means that you sent BTC to somebody and the rest of the BTC was sent to your change address.
In this case, it could potentially mean you've sent 0.001 to somebody and the bulk of your funds was sent to a change address you own, but since your wallet wasn't fully sync'd, you don't know this yet...

My best advice would be: make sure your wallet is sync'ed, make sure your wallet.dat is backupped and make sure your computer is clean and your wallet is encrypted

I had the btc wallet on a laptop which i rarely used and thought of that as a safe hiding spot.
when i turned on the laptop it was so slow, i started fearing for its life, so i send it to another laptop of mine.

how can i completely sync my wallet?

SO... If i get it correctly, you have:

Laptop A with wallet A
Laptop B with wallet B

Laptop A has an old, unsynced installation of bitcoin core. You sent all funds from wallet A to an address generated on laptop B with wallet B?

I'd just stick to my previous tip:
Make sure both laptops/PC's are secure, make sure both wallet.dat's are backupped, wait untill both wallets are sync'd. Once everything is completely sync'ed, re-evaluate

BTW: the only thing you can do to sync your wallets is waiting, just open the debug.log and see if it's syncing, if it is => wait some more

after i saw how dreadfully slow it was i reinstalled the whole machine.
Another thing i find weird is when i open my debug window, console tab and try to enter commands ( for instance -rescan) i get
Method not found (code -32601)
Could this also be a factor in this ' thing' i created?

for future reference: it's allways a (very) good idear to save your wallet.dat. In this case, you can still try to use file recovery software to recover this file, altough the chance of recovering it from your old laptop is slim. Offcourse, since you're pretty sure you used all inputs to this wallet to create transactions with outputs to your new wallet, this isn't a really big deal this time (guess you got lucky).
The reasons for keeping the old wallet.dat are: somebody having your old address on file might send you some BTC, you'll need to old wallet.dat to recover your funds and/or the private keys in the old wallet.dat might be used to sign messages and prove your identity.

That being said, i'm pretty optimistic that the wallet on your new laptop just isn't sync'ed yet, and your problems will hopefully all go away once it is.

About the debug window: i guess you're entering the wrong commands here... There is a big difference which commands you should use as a commandline parameter when starting bitcoin core, which parameters can be entered in the bitcoin.conf file and which commands should be used in the debug window. Could you try a simple "getinfo" (without quotes).

Entering -rescan in Debug > Console won't work. You have to start bitcoin qt with it. A simple way to do that on windows 7 is to press Win+R or go to start menu and click "Run" and enter: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe -rescan. Replace the path to your installation directory if you installed it somewhere else.
