Okay, so I havent' withdrawn since 2011, so I'm quite old at this. I'll consider myself a newbie in this fast paced changing world.

How can I get my MtGox USD into USD reliably? Seems like I need to get verified via MtGox?

I'm afraid you have to wait for verification. Although there are other ways you can cash out. Like localbitcoins.com for example.
