MasterCard has filed 4 new patent applications focused on payments and transactions based on Blockchain technology with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

I don't get it, if they hope to stifle innovation with these patents they will fail; anything they create can be assimilated into Bitcoin or other free and open platforms and used against them.
(I am a 1MB block supporter who thinks all users should be using Full-Node clients)

What is  this with sudden bitcoin patenting? Everyone seems to go crazy about it at the same time, yesterday we had news about Coinbase,
they try to patent Bitcoin Private Key Security System now MasterCard wants to do something similar?
I guess they realized if they wait longer they could become a MySpace of payment processors.
