Noob here, been searching around and haven't been able to find a good answer to this question (sorry!)

Are there downsides to using different kinds of graphics cards in a rack-mounted gpu rig? I've been deal hunting for a bit and been able to track down a few 5850s and 6950s and wonder if there's any negative to putting them together on one mobo. I see most people building rigs with uniform cards (all same type) as far as I can tell...

The biggest issue you may face with different cards is that some cards will hash faster with different driver versions than others.

Otherwise it should work, just not at an optimal speed.

Personally I don't see any, sucessfully mined with two different types of card for a while and I got the same hash rate as the card alone.

Watch out which driver you install, I am now unable to mine with two card in the same PC since I installed any 13.XX and the rollback was unsucessfull so I quit mining with my weakest card... Didn't feel like reinstalling winblows.

I think it's a good thing because you will get a faster ROI if you put 6 GC in 2 rig than if you put 2CG in 3 rig because you will save the cost of 1 motherboard and one PSU for the same mh/s

alright, sounds like it's doable then. what i'm reading suggests they all run the same driver versions so it should be alright i think. thanks for the insights!
