I'm not affiliated with Mt. Gox, but I wanted to help spread the news in case some of you aren't checking their site regularly. Their original statement about temporarily shutting down their exchange was:

"Trading is halted until 2013-04-12 02:00am UTC to allow the market to cooldown following the drop in price."

They've added a note that they'll not charge trading fees initially when they reopen:

"Additionally trading fees will not be charged within 48 hours of trading resuming (until 2013-04-14 02:00am UTC)."

Their support page is the place to watch for updated news: https://support.mtgox.com/home

It should also be noted that they may be taking their service down for about 2 hours to install and configure extra servers.

Someone on this forum mentioned it from a Facebook post on the Mt.Gox page.

Of course, thats under the assumption they arent using the server as an excuse.  Their main message mentions the MARKET needing to cool down, not a server upgrade.   Its a currency manipulation most likely.
